How to Beat the Summer Slide Tips
- Have your child read for at least 20 minutes every day.
- Spend time cooking together.
- Explore different kinds of reading materials like picture books, chapter books, and magazines.
- Make use of your local library.
- Listen to audio books on summer car trips.
- Read aloud with your children daily.
- Review skills with fun, hands-on review activities.
- Engage in meaningful conversation and help build your child's vocabulary.
- Enjoy a new hobby.
Summer Reading Fun & Ideas
York Revolution Boomer's Book Club
It provides incentives for your children to grow as readers. They improve their reading skills AND get the fun of York Revolution baseball.
York County Libraries SummerQuest
They offer kids and teens tons of ways to stay active in mind and body all summer long. They host free, fun activities that keep everyone learning, reading, and physically active from June to August.
Events at Glatfelter Memorial Library
(Spring Grove Location) Therapy dogs, snail races, marble races, a visit from Downtown, the mascot from the York Revolution, and so much more.
Events at Martin Library
(York Location) In addition to events, there is free breakfast from 10:00-10:30 and free lunch from 2:30-3:00. This program is open to children up to age 18 and runs Monday through Friday starting June 10, 2024 and ending August 8, 2024.
Events at Guthrie Memorial Library
(Hanover Location) Events include Pokemon Club, Cloud Quest, therapy dogs, Minecraft Tournament, and more.

Reading Buddies is an engaging foundational television series based on the science of reading. The show teaches the underlying components of skillful word reading.
