Sapphire and Schoology Explained

For Students in Grades 5 - 12

To provide you with better and more timely insights into your student’s performance, all grades for individual assignments, quizzes, and exams are posted exclusively on Schoology.

Prior to the 2024-2025 school year, you may have accessed class assignment (i.e. projects, quizzes/tests, homework, etc.) grades through Schoology, Sapphire, or both places, which could be confusing. Sapphire is not able to provide details regarding all class assignment grades, which means you may not have seen the complete picture of your child’s academic progress. By focusing on Schoology for detailed classwork information, we are simplifying the process and giving you a clearer picture of your child’s progress. End-of-marking period report cards will still be in Sapphire only.

Sapphire

Sapphire is SGASD's Student Information System, which is the program that stores your child's official school information.

Use Sapphire to:

  • Update parent/guardian contact information
  • View end-of-marking period report cards
  • Submit an attendance excuse
  • View your child’s class schedule
  • Complete back-to-school required forms

Schoology

Schoology is SGASD's Learning Management System, which is the program that is considered the "home base" for your child's classwork.

Use Schoology to:

  • View day-to-day class assignments and information.
  • View grades for assignments, projects, classwork, etc.

How to Register for Your Parent Accounts

Both Schoology and Sapphire have separate login information.

Sapphire

Most families already have a Sapphire Portal Account. If you need help creating or accessing your account, please refer to our directions.

How to Register for a Sapphire Portal Account

Schoology

You may already have a Schoology Parent Account. If you don't , please follow the directions below to create a Schoology Parent Account. 

Note: You only need one parent account for multiple children. Learn how to add students to your account.

Schoology New Account Directions

  1. Go to https://app.schoology.com/register.php.
  2. Choose the 'Parent' option.
  3. Enter your 12-digit Parent Access Code. If you do not have this, please contact your child's school or access it in Sapphire (Reports -> File Cabinet -> Technology Materials -> Open the most recent "Student Notification - Schoology-Parent Account" letter).
  4. Click 'Continue.'
  5. Fill out the form with your information.
  6. Click 'Register' to complete.
