Pennsylvania System of School Assessment Information

The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) is a standardized test designed by the State Board of Education and administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). The PSSA consists of multiple-choice and open-ended questions in Mathematics and English Language Arts, and it provides valuable insights into student achievement and the overall quality of education within our district. All PSSA tests will be administered online. Students will use their iPads to complete the assessments.

Please review the PDE cell phone and electronic device policy related to PSSA testing. Additional resources, including FAQs from PDE, are available below.

If you have any questions about the PSSA process, please contact your child's school building.

Who Takes the PSSA?

Students in grades 3 - 8 are required to participate in the PSSA assessments.

  • Grades 3 - 8: All students in these grades take the PSSA in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
  • Grades 5 and 8: The students will also take the Science PSSA.

How Parents & Guardians Can Support Their Child

Parents and guardians play an essential role in helping students prepare for these assessments. Here are some ways you can support your child:

Maintain Regular Attendance: Students who test with their peers benefit from a structured testing environment and avoid the need for makeup sessions, which can lead to frustration and missed classwork.

Limit Scheduling Conflicts: Please make every effort to avoid scheduling doctor’s appointments or other absences during the testing period. All makeup sessions must be completed by May 2, 2025.

Encourage Healthy Habits: Ensure your child gets plenty of sleep during the testing period and eats a nutritious breakfast each morning before testing.

Provide Positive Encouragement: Help your child approach the PSSA with a positive attitude by offering words of encouragement and reminding them that they are prepared and capable.
