Mind and Heart Wellness: Trauma-Informed Care Resources for Parents
Spring Grove Area School District is dedicated to supporting the emotional and mental well-being of our students and staff. As part of our ongoing commitment to creating a safe and supportive learning environment, we continue to strengthen our trauma-informed approach to support our students’ diverse needs.
What is Trauma-Informed Care?
Trauma-informed care is an educational approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma on students’ lives and their ability to learn. Trauma can result from various experiences, such as family disruptions, community violence, or personal loss, and it affects students in different ways. Some students may experience significant emotional and behavioral challenges, while others may internalize their feelings in more subtle ways. Trauma-informed care helps educators understand these effects and provide a supportive environment where all students can thrive.
By focusing on trauma-informed practices, we aim to create an environment where every student feels safe, understood, and empowered to succeed. This approach allows us to respond to the unique challenges students face, offering them the support they need to develop emotional resilience, cope with stress, and engage fully in their education.
Resources for Parents
To help families navigate these challenges, we’ve partnered with counseling and social work professionals Kara Vojcsik, LCSW, and Dr. Stephanie DePalmer, Ed.D., LPC, NCC, NCSC. They’ve created a series of videos that address common issues children face today, offering practical guidance and strategies for parents.
Throughout the school year, we will be sharing these videos on topics such as:
- Anxiety
- Cell phones and social media
- Power struggles
- Humor vs. sarcasm
- And more
We encourage you to explore these resources to better understand how to support your child at home.
