September 15, 2020: SGAHS Parent Communication - Confirmed COVID-19 Case
Dear High School Parents/Guardians:
On Monday, September 14, 2020, we were informed of a confirmed case of COVID-19 at Spring Grove Area High School. As a result of this information, our District and Building Administration have been in contact with the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADoH), and we are taking measures in compliance with PADoH guidance.
At this time, we have been advised by the PADoH that we are NOT to close Spring Grove Area High School, and school will continue as usual. However, the 9th-grade (freshmen) football team is affected and will need to quarantine for 14 days.
Due to privacy requirements, we cannot release the name of the individual or details that may identify him or her. The person with the confirmed case is following the Pennsylvania Department of Health recommendations for isolation.
Per our established protocol, we have thoroughly cleaned and disinfected potentially exposed areas. The District will cooperate with and assist the PADoH with its contact tracing investigation to identify those individuals considered to be close contacts of the affected person and will contact any person who may have been exposed and advise them to quarantine for 14 days. (The definition of exposure is a person who was within six feet of the person for at least 15 consecutive minutes.) The District has been in contact with any persons who meet the definition of exposure (considered “close contacts”) while in our building and has directed them to follow appropriate quarantine guidelines.
Ensuring that our students, staff, and school environment are safe remains of greatest importance to us. As a reminder, please continue to closely monitor your child’s health and seek medical attention if any symptoms arise that are new and/or not explained by another reason. Individuals with COVID-19 may present with a range of symptoms such as the following:
- Fever or chills
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Muscle or body aches
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
If your child is exhibiting symptoms or is in the process of being tested for COVID-19, please keep him/her home. For more information on COVID-19, please visit the CDC’s website at cdc.gov.
Thank you for your continued support.
