August 6, 2020: Parent Communication - FAQs Now Available!

Dear Rocket Families,

On behalf of the Board of School Directors of the Spring Grove Area School District, I am writing to thank you for your patience, your understanding, and your support these past few months.  As we all have realized, there have been challenging decisions before us as we have experienced unprecedented events that have made a profound impact on our lives.  

Parent Commitment/Intention Form

The majority of our parents responded with the intent to have their child(ren) physically return to school (representing over 70% of the students) on August 24th. Our facilities and transportation crews are busily preparing for the arrival of students and staff (staff return on August 17th; students return on August 24th); our teachers are continuing their preparations to ensure our students will be actively engaged in their learning activities, whether in the classroom or through distance learning. Additionally, our teachers and tech staff are working to be sure that the necessary technical supports for instruction are in place for students in all learning settings.

Staff members from each school building have been busy speaking with parents/guardians regarding school intentions for the 2020-21 school year. If you did not take the opportunity to submit your School Intentions and Transportation Commitment Form response, your child has been enrolled for traditional instruction. If that is not your wish for your child, or if you decide to make a change after reading the Parent/Guardian Frequently Asked Questions, please contact your child’s school building as soon as possible. 

Parent/Guardian Frequently Asked Questions

As I noted above, we are grateful for your patience as our entire District staff has continued to work tirelessly to prepare for what we all desire: to welcome our students back for the new school year on August 24th. You have been patiently waiting for answers, and today, I am providing you with an extensive list of Parent/Guardian Frequently Asked Questions, that can be found by clicking the preceding link or by visiting the District’s School Reopening web page. The FAQs are accurate as of the date and time of this communication.  We know that the situation has and can change with little notice; and we will continue to make every effort to communicate with you as soon as we are able to respond to any such changes.

Future Communication

Next week, we will be sharing building-specific reopening videos from the principals. We are also in the process of planning building-specific parent/guardian Zoom meetings to review reopening information with you and answer additional questions you may have. We will be communicating the dates and times for the building-specific parent/guardian Zoom meetings soon. If you know of someone who is not receiving our communications, please encourage them to call us to update their contact information. 

August 10th School Board Meeting

On Monday, August 10th at 7:00 PM, our School Board will be voting on changes to the Health and Safety Plans. Those changes, specifically the revised order on mandatory face coverings and the limiting of spectators/attendees at public events, are being presented so that our School District can remain in compliance with the updated orders from the state.  Additional changes are presented to comply with updated wording in state and federal guidance.  No other operational changes are being proposed to our reopening plans. 

Per the Governor’s order limiting attendance at indoor public events to a maximum of 25 people, physical attendance at the August 10th School Board meeting will be limited to board members and assigned administrators only. A Zoom webinar link will be provided no later than 10:00 AM Friday, August 7th, for participation by all other interested staff and/or community members. It was wonderful to see so many of you engaged at the July 13th Board meeting. Due to our community’s increased interest in attending our Board meetings, we have modified our Zoom license to increase the number of participants in the hope that you continue to be engaged.
