January 22, 2021: Parent/Guardian COVID-19 District Survey Results

Dear Rocket Families,

Thank you to everyone who submitted responses to the Parent/Guardian COVID-19 District Survey. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey and for the overwhelming comments of support and thanks. It was uplifting to read your comments and we truly appreciate your words of encouragement. 

I would like to share with you the results of the survey, as well as some of the changes we are making based on the feedback you provided and recent additional guidance from the PA Department of Health. Overall, parents/guardians are pleased with the District’s handling of COVID-19 matters and communications, rating the District a little over 4 out of 5 stars.  (A link to the full survey results is below.)  That being said, we also learned from your comments that there are some areas we can improve for greater clarification. 

Number of Total Positive Cases Within a 14-day Period
Through our communications and the COVID-19 Dashboard, we have informed you of all student and staff confirmed positive COVID-19 cases both inside and outside of our school buildings. We learned from your comments that by not separating out the total positive cases by “active” and “not counted” we may have unintentionally caused concern.  In addition, we recently received new guidance from the PA Department of Health that there are circumstances when positive cases should not be included in the District’s active 14-day period as a result of the date when the individual was considered to become symptomatic and/or infectious.

Therefore, as of today, we have updated our COVID-19 Dashboard to show both total “active” positive cases and “not counted” positive cases. Active Cases include COVID positive individuals that were present in school while infectious. Not Counted Positive Cases are COVID positive individuals who were not in school while infectious. It is our hope that this gives a clearer picture of COVID-19 cases in the District.

No Reportable Close Contacts Clarification
Your comments also brought to our attention that we should better define the statement “no reportable close contacts” that you often see in the confirmed cases update. When there are no reportable close contacts, that simply means that the COVID positive individual was either NOT in one of our school buildings during his/her infectious period, and/or there were no persons who met the PA Department of Health definition of a close contact (within 6 feet for a 15-minute period), therefore resulting in no close contacts within our school buildings. In those cases, the confirmed positive individuals are most likely also considered a “not counted positive case.”
