NSE Student, Sawyer Hunnings, Recognized for his Effort in "Dunk the Junk"

New Salem Student, Sawyer Hunnings, Recognized for his Effort in "Dunk the Junk". Sawyer poses with his project.
A big congratulations to Sawyer Hunnings, 4th-grade New Salem Elementary student and Student Council member, for his recycling efforts at New Salem Elementary School. When Sawyer became a member of the fourth grade Student Council, he informed his peers that he wanted to find ways to improve the environment. He devised a plan, and with the help of School Counselor Jenn Dugan, Sawyer was able to connect and work closely with the York County Solid Waste Authority by developing the “Dunk the Junk” initiative to recycle milk cartons. Since September, Sawyer has been educating the third and fourth-grade students at New Salem on the benefits of recycling and the goal and expectations of his "Dunk the Junk" initiative.
On January 13, 2022, he was recognized by his classmates, staff, parents, and Mindy Waltemyer, Recycling Coordinator from the York County Solid Waste Authority, with a trophy and framed certificate for his wonderful efforts. We are #RocketProud to have another SGASD student making a difference in our community!
