NSE Literacy Festival Chosen as Exemplary Program by Shippensburg University
Shippensburg University Superintendent Study Council chooses outstanding innovative programs of member institutions annually. New Salem Elementary School's (NSE) Literacy Festival has been chosen as a Shippensburg University Superintendent Study Council Exemplary Program for 2020!The NSE Literacy Festival is designed with two goals in mind. First and foremost, it is designed to demonstrate to students all the fun that surrounds becoming a lifelong learner and avid reader. The second goal is to provide a learning experience for the parents at NSE.
Each year, sessions, conducted by our own instructional team and/or guests from outside of our district, are planned to help parents become more aware of the intricacies related to educational strategies used while helping students learn how to read. Sessions offered at each Literacy Festival are based on parent feedback. The literacy festival is packed with great activities for students and parents alike. Approximately 250 parents typically attended the festival.
Ms. Cynthia Cohen and Ms. Jody Warehime, the Title I Reading Teachers, are responsible for the planning and implementation of this celebration of reading. They strive to improve the program each year.
