A few months ago, we shared with you that three students from the Middle School were selected to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City: Gavin Lange, Abby Murren, and Gracie Shaub. The festival and performance took place last Wednesday through Saturday, June 19-22, 2019, and the students had an amazing experience!

The process began with nominations for their hard work during the 2017-18 school year (sent in June), followed by their families accepting the nomination, a performance biography, and a three to five-minute audition of two different styles of music (completed in November). The final step in the process was for students to accept the invitation.

Our students were three of 361 student musicians representing schools from all fifty states, Canada, Qatar, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. The musicians met for the first time Wednesday evening in New York and rehearsed for about thirteen hours over three days before performing.

The guest director of this outstanding choir was Dr. Rollo Dillworth, an acclaimed composer, arranger, and clinician of choral music currently teaching at Temple University. In addition to 154 chorus musicians, there was also a 111 band and 97 orchestra musicians.

A special thank you to the Spring Grove Music Boosters and the Spring Grove Alumni Chorus for their financial support to offset travel and meal costs for our musicians and their families.
