Ashton Waltemyer Earns Girl Scout’s Highest Honor, the Gold Award
Congratulations to Ashton Waltemyer for earning her Gold Award! See the press release below from the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania.
HARRISBURG, PA – Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania congratulates Ashton Waltemyer, 17, of York, PA, for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award – the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn, making a meaningful, sustainable change to her community and the world.
Ashton, a volunteer firefighter, worked to restore the Hanover Fire Museum. She organized the installation of new windows, new floors, and the repainting of the entire building to bring the building up to modern code. Her goal was to preserve its original 1980s look, but bring it up to date for functioning in today's era.
Ashton used her project to educate the community about the work of firefighters and recruit new volunteers to join as firefighters.
“I have learned so much from this project,” says Ashton. “I would not trade it for anything. I loved putting my skills to work and working with all of the wonderful people I had met during the project.”
