Pressley McMaster Earns Girl Scout’s Highest Honor, the Gold Award
Congratulations to Pressley McMaster for earning her Gold Award! See press release below from the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania.
HARRISBURG, PA – Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania congratulates Pressley McMaster, 17, of York, PA, for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award – the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn, making a meaningful, sustainable change to her community and the world.
McMaster combined her passion for art with her desire to increase awareness for mental health by painting encouraging, uplifting murals in the walls of her church youth group and common areas at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, PA. Many different members of the community use the church and will see McMaster’s murals, including Girl Scout troops, Boy Scout troops, the church youth group, and other community groups.
To educate the community, McMaster created pamphlets including suicide risk factors, warning signs, stress triggers, how to handle stress, how to help someone in a crisis, and contact information for local/national suicide help centers.
In addition, McMaster will host an Open House at the church in late May to present her project and explain her hopes and goals for the continued success of the project, and to further raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention.
