December 12, 2021: PA Department of Health Masking Order Update
Dear Rocket Families, On Friday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court struck down the Acting Secretary of Health’s school masking order, effective December 10, 2021. This decision immediately voids the Department of Health’s (DOH) mask mandate, which has required masking in school buildings since September 7, 2021. Decisions regarding masking in schools are now returned to local school boards. Our current Health and Safety Plan states that face coverings will be optional unless the wearing of face coverings is specifically required by law or Order of local, state, or federal authorities. Therefore, since the DOH Order has been invalidated, effective Monday, December 13, 2021, face coverings will be optional for students, staff, and visitors in all Spring Grove Area School District facilities, as per our Health and Safety Plan. Please note:
This decision does not change how schools respond to COVID-19 cases in schools, address outbreaks, or report data to the DOH.
This decision does not impact the Federal Order issued in January 2021 or the American Rescue Plan (ARP). Face coverings continue to be required on School District-provided transportation.
Faculty, staff, and students may continue to wear face coverings if they choose.
