September 16, 2021: Face Covering Update
Dear Rocket Families,
Thank you for your support and patience over the last two weeks as the District worked to determine the best possible way to implement the Pennsylvania Department of Health face covering order and process the submitted medical exemption forms. As you know, the face covering grace period that the District put into effect expires at the end of day Monday, September 20, 2021. Beginning, Tuesday, September 21, 2021, the face covering mandate will be in full effect in all Spring Grove schools.
For those who submitted the student face covering medical exemption forms, they have been filed and are being processed. If you have submitted the form, you may be contacted if the necessary medical information is incomplete or missing. On Tuesday morning, students without a medical exemption form on file will be expected to report to school wearing a face covering. "Face covering" means covering of the nose and mouth with material that is secured to the head with ties, straps, or loops over the ears or is wrapped around the lower face. A "face covering" can be made of a variety of synthetic or natural fabrics, including cotton, silk or linen. If a cloth face covering is not feasible for your child(ren), they may choose to wear a plastic face shield that covers the nose and mouth, extends below the chin and to the ears, and leaves no exposed gap between the forehead and the shield’s headpiece.
Students will be permitted to remove their face coverings when eating breakfast and/or lunch, during physical education classes, during teacher-directed mask breaks, and when outside of our buildings. If you have not done so already, and wish to submit the medical exemption form for your child(ren), please click HERE to access the form.
We understand the wearing of face coverings in schools is a highly contentious topic. As a school district, we are directed and legally required to implement and enforce the order. As I have mentioned in the past, our goal is to remain open and be available for our students and provide for their educational, physical, and emotional well-being. We ask for your cooperation in following the mandate. It is of utmost importance that we limit any disruptions to our learning environment as much as possible for the benefit of our students. Your understanding and cooperation with the mask mandate will help us continue to focus on educating our students and fulfilling our mutual goal of keeping our school doors open.
If you have a question regarding your child’s educational program or other options available to them, please contact your child’s building principal.
