• Nursing Services

    The health room staff treats illnesses and injuries that arise during the school day, as well as assists students and staff with the management of chronic health concerns. Our practice is guided by the Framework for 21st Century Nursing Practice.
     

    What Does a School Nurse Do?

    • Provides health services that increase school attendance
    • Helps prevent and control the spread of communicable disease
    • Administers specialized services to students (medications, tube feedings, insulin)
    • Verifies immunizations to keep the school in compliance with state mandates
    • Screens for hearing and vision deficits
    • Provides health professional input and direction for school and community policies and programs
    • Educates students and staff on managing their own health and wellness
    • Assists in the evaluation of students for special education services

    Mrs. Bahn is the certified school nurse for the elementary buildings, K-4, in our school district.

    Background:

    Mrs. Bahn graduated from the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and in 2003 earned a Masters in Health Education from Penn State University. Mrs. Bahn is licensed as a registered nurse with prior practice experience in ambulatory surgery and nurse management. Mrs. Bahn is an active member of the York County School Nurses Association, the Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners, and the National Association of School Nurses.

    Background: 

    Mrs. Bulgarelli graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Mrs. Bulgarelli is licensed as a registered nurse with prior practice experience at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and currently works at Children's Dental Surgery Center. Mrs. Bulgarelli is an active member of the York County School Nurses Association, the Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners, and the National Association of School Nurses.

    Mrs. Speir graduated from York College of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and earned a Master's of Science in Nursing from Eastern Mennonite University. Mrs. Speir is licensed as a registered nurse with prior practice experience in an inpatient surgical unit. Mrs. Speir is an active member of the York County School Nurses Association, the Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners, and the National Association of School Nurses.
