SGE 1st Graders “Pop” Their Way to Reading Success

SGE 1st Graders “Pop” Their Way to Reading Success

First-grade students at Spring Grove Elementary (SGE) are celebrating a major milestone after achieving a shared reading goal set at the start of the school year.

Through dedication, teamwork, and a growing enthusiasm for reading, first-grade classrooms worked together to reach their reading goal. Their progress was tracked in a fun and engaging way by “filling” a large bubble gum machine, with each accomplishment adding to the collective goal.

Once the goal was met, students celebrated their success with a bubble gum party alongside their teachers and reading specialists.

The initiative was designed to build confident readers, increase reading engagement, and foster a love of books. To keep students motivated, small celebrations were held throughout the process, helping maintain excitement and momentum.

This effort was a true team collaboration led by SGE’s first-grade teachers and reading specialists, including Ms. Emily Sprenkle, Ms. Melissa Wisensale, and Ms. Alison Zander.

While reaching their goal was a significant accomplishment, the students aren’t finished yet. They plan to keep reading and see how full their bubble gum machine can get by the end of the school year!
