At the August 23, 2024, home varsity football game, the 2024 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees will be honored at halftime. Congratulations to Cindy Crimmel, David Dietrich, Robert Hancock, Peggy Kile, Mike Sterner, and their families!
About the Athletic Hall of Fame
The Rocket Athletic Hall of Fame honors the very best in Rocket Athletics' history to preserve the heritage and tradition of athletic excellence at Spring Grove Area High School. This special honor recognizes members of the Spring Grove family who have distinguished themselves as outstanding contributors to athletics at Spring Grove Area High School and possibly beyond.
The Hall of Fame honors student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and longtime and distinctive supporters of the Athletic Department.
2024 Inductees
Cindy Crimmel, 2002, Student-Athlete Inductee
Cindy Crimmel, a 2002 graduate of Spring Grove Area High School, distinguished herself as a talented athlete in both Varsity Basketball and Track and Field. Cindy's combination of natural ability and determination propelled her to become one of the girls' basketball program's outstanding players. Her skills extended to the track, where she became the 2002 YAIAA County Champion in the 100-meter hurdles.
Cindy Crimmel's dedication and athletic achievements have left a lasting legacy at Spring Grove, inspiring future generations of athletes.

David Dietrich, 1997, Student-Athlete Inductee
David Dietrich, a 1997 graduate of Spring Grove Area High School, excelled in wrestling, football, and cross country. In wrestling, David was a District 3 champion during his junior year and placed third in his senior year. He also distinguished himself as a 2-time PIAA state qualifier. Continuing his wrestling career at Drexel University, David became an NCAA Division 1 National Qualifier.
David's commitment to Spring Grove did not end with his athletic career. He returned to serve his alma mater as an assistant wrestling coach, a 5th-grade teacher, an assistant principal, and eventually as the principal of Spring Grove Area High School. David Dietrich's achievements, both on and off the mat, have made a lasting impact on the Spring Grove community, exemplifying dedication and leadership.

Robert Hancock, 1960, Student-Athlete Inductee
Robert Hancock, a 1960 graduate of Spring Grove Area High School, made his mark as a standout basketball player. From 1957 to 1960, he played on the varsity team and scored an impressive 1,204 points, ranking him fourth in Spring Grove history—a feat achieved before the advent of the three-point shot.
After high school, Robert continued his basketball career at Susquehanna University, where he further showcased his talent and dedication to the sport. Robert Hancock's remarkable achievements and contributions to basketball have cemented his legacy in the Spring Grove community, inspiring future generations of athletes.

Peggy Kile, 1974, Friends of Athletics Inductee
Peggy Kile, a 1974 graduate of Spring Grove Area High School, dedicated 28 years of her career to the Spring Grove Area School District, serving in various impactful roles. As the High School Swimming and Diving Coach from 2006 to 2015, Peggy led and inspired many young athletes. Her tenure as the Aquatics Director from 1997 to 2022 was marked by her unwavering commitment to the community’s aquatic programs and swim safety.
Even after her retirement in 2021, Peggy's passion for service continued as she taught lifeguarding and CPR classes, ensuring that vital life-saving skills were passed on to future generations. Her influence on the community is profound—if you grew up in Spring Grove and know how to swim, it is likely thanks to Peggy's dedication and expertise.
Peggy Kile's legacy is a testament to her lifelong commitment to education, safety, and the well-being of the Spring Grove community. She leaves an unforgettable mark on the hearts of those she taught and mentored.

Mike Sterner, 1973, Student-Athlete Inductee
Mike Sterner, a 1973 graduate of Spring Grove Area High School, distinguished himself as a remarkable multi-sport athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. He made history as the first Spring Grove player to gain over 2,000 yards in a three-year football career, rushing for 741 yards in his sophomore season, and scoring 66 points in his junior year. Mike's senior season saw him earn All-County First Team honors as a fullback and being named Outstanding Running Back in both his sophomore and senior seasons.
In 1973, Mike continued his football career at Lock Haven University, where he became the first freshman player to be named to the ECAC Rookie Team.
After his collegiate success, Mike returned to Spring Grove, dedicating 17 years to coaching football and 10 years to coaching baseball, with the last three years as head coach.
Mike Sterner's athletic achievements and coaching contributions have left a lasting impact on the Spring Grove community, inspiring many young athletes to strive for excellence.
