SGAHS Students Excel in American Legion Oratorical Contest

The American Legion Oratorical Contest, a program designed to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of the U.S. Constitution among high school students, recently showcased the talents of two outstanding participants from our area. This competition also aims to foster leadership skills, enhance public speaking abilities, and prepare young people to embrace the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. Additionally, it provides valuable scholarship opportunities to help students offset the rising costs of higher education.

At the county level of the contest, SGAHS junior Amelia Etter won first place, while SGAHS junior Jordan Sharp won second place. Both students delivered impressive eight to ten-minute speeches on constitutional topics without using notes, followed by a three to five-minute impromptu speech on a randomly selected amendment. Their exceptional performances earned them scholarship awards and the honor of representing the American Legion Post in our area.

Looking ahead, Amelia Etter will advance to compete for the district title in just a few weeks. Congratulations to Amelia and Jordan for their achievements and dedication to mastering the principles of the Constitution!
