Nutrition Services
The Spring Grove Area School District participates in the National School Meal Program. Nutritious meals are served every school day to help our students Learn Without Limits. Fresh fruits and vegetables from various local vendors are served daily. Milk choices are served with every meal.
The District recognizes that student wellness and proper nutrition are related to physical well-being, growth, development, and learning readiness. In a healthy school environment, students will learn about and participate in positive dietary lifestyle practices that can improve student achievement.

Summer EBT/SUN Bucks Benefit
Summer is a time when many children may not have access to the free and reduced-price meals they get during the school year, and households might need a little extra help putting meals on the table. SUN Bucks, Pennsylvania’s Summer EBT program, is a new grocery benefits program that provides households with a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible child to buy food while school is out. Benefits can be used at local participating retailers to purchase groceries.
Many children will get these benefits automatically, but some households will need to apply. The benefits will be added to an existing SNAP/TANF EBT card or a newly issued Summer EBT card.
More Information and Assistance
The PA Department of Human Services (DHS) and its County Assistance Offices offer Summer EBT/SUN Bucks family support.
The DHS Summer EBT/SUN Bucks webpage for families provides information about the benefit, Frequently Asked Questions, the SUN Bucks family application, and an eligibility navigator tool to help families determine if they need to apply. County Assistance Offices can provide family support for all Summer EBT/SUN Bucks questions. Use the CAO locator tool. The Statewide Customer Service Center can be reached by phone at 1-877-395-8930.
About the National School Lunch & Breakfast Programs
Spring Grove Area School District participates in both the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP) to ensure students have access to nutritious, balanced meals that support their academic success and overall well-being.
Why Are These Programs Important?
-
Supports Learning & Focus: Proper nutrition is linked to improved concentration, memory, and academic performance.
-
Promotes Healthy Eating Habits: Meals follow federal nutrition guidelines, encouraging lifelong healthy choices.
-
Ensures Accessibility: The programs provide meals at a reduced cost or free for eligible families, helping to reduce food insecurity.
-
Keeps Meal Costs Low: For every meal served, SGASD receives cash subsidies and USDA Foods. These funds help us keep school meal costs low, passing the savings on to all our Rocket families.
-
Saves You Time: If you spend 10 minutes a day packing lunch, that adds up to 30 hours (1,800 minutes) each school year.
Who Can Participate?
-
All students enrolled in SGASD schools can purchase breakfast and lunch daily.
-
Families may qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on income eligibility guidelines set by the USDA.
