Attendance

View from back of classroom with students' hands raised

Consistent attendance at school is a key pillar of academic progress and social and emotional learning.  Students will feel better about themselves and their studies when they are invested in being in school and on time. The skill of attendance carries far beyond school, including in post-secondary education, and employment.  It is necessary to lay the groundwork for this success at public school. The District thanks parents and guardians for their important role in assuring their children arrive at school on time and ready to engage in Learning Without Limits.

Board Attendance Policy

The Spring Grove Area School District follows attendance procedures in accordance with Board Attendance Policy #204 and in compliance with the PA Department of Education's compulsory attendance requirements.

For detailed attendance information, please visit the Attendance section of the Student Parent Handbook.

Home School Visitor/Truancy Officer

Our licensed Home School Visitor does wellness checks with students and parents to address truancy. This includes visiting the homes of students facing attendance, academic and discipline challenges. The Home School Visitor/Truancy Officer also attends District Justice and Juvenile court proceedings and works with school staff to address attendance issues. The record of excused, unlawful, and tardy days is a part of the student’s report card.

Student Absences

Student absences must be completed and submitted via the Sapphire Community Web Portal

If your child is absent, please log into your Sapphire account and navigate to the Student Data Forms section to find the absence forms. The building attendance secretary will be notified when you submit the absence form in Sapphire. Once the absence is approved, the documentation will be accessible in the Document Center of your Sapphire account.

If you do not have internet access, please contact the main office of your child’s school to receive a paper copy of the Digital Excuse Card.
