Learning Options

Our traditional learning environment is enhanced with various learning technologies to provide the highest quality learning experience for our in-person learners. 

All teachers have an online presence in Seesaw or Schoology that serves as a digital home base to supplement their classroom instruction. Specifically, it allows teachers to meet the needs of our in-person learners by:

• Providing differentiated instructional resources
• Granting individual students a voice and choice in their learning
• Promoting extended learning outside of the classroom
• Organizing resources for students and parents/guardians to access at home

Having a digital home base as a regular part of traditional instruction also allows for:

• Continued instruction if a student is absent for an extended period of time
• A seamless transition to Virtual Learning at Home if a situation such as inclement weather or a major facilities issue would cause the need to close an entire classroom, individual building, or the entire district.

Additionally, all teachers are prepared to use Zoom (when appropriate) to conduct meetings and broadcast live and/or archived videos of instructional activities.

SGFlex (Spring Grove Flexible Learning Experience) is designed to provide students with flexible learning options beyond our traditional learning environment. SGFlex continually adapts to the evolving needs of our learners.

SGFlex is available for students in grades Kindergarten through 12. Instructional delivery is tailored to the grade level to best meet the needs of our students.

HOME EDUCATION PROGRAM

Pennsylvania School Code, Act 169, Section 1327.1, specifies the rights and responsibilities of parents who wish to provide a home education program for their child and defines the requirements of the school district where the family resides.

According to PDE, the supervisor of the home education program must have a high school diploma or equivalent. All adults living in the home and persons with legal custody of a child or children must not have been convicted of the criminal offenses itemized in 24 P.S. §1-111 (e) within five years immediately preceding the affidavit date.

A home education program is commenced by submitting a notarized affidavit or unsworn declaration (document) to the Superintendent’s Office of the student’s home district of residence by the home education supervisor (parent, guardian, or person having legal custody of the child). The document covers the school year from July 1 – June 30. It must be submitted no later than September 1^st of a child’s (of compulsory attendance age) first year of homeschool education, August 1^st of each school year when a child is continuing in a homeschool program, or at any time during the school year when a child is transitioning from another educational setting into a homeschool program.

HOME TUTOR PROGRAM

Pennsylvania School Code, Act 169, Section 1327, defines an appropriately qualified private tutor and allows a parent, guardian, or person having legal custody of a child to provide home tutoring for their child as an option for complying with Compulsory School Attendance.

A private tutor must submit to the school district of residency a list of all privately tutored students between the ages of six and 18. Private tutor parents must provide written verification to the school district of residence for each student of compulsory attendance age admitted to the private tutor educational setting and, each year thereafter, verify that the legal instructional requirements have been met. Private tutors must provide current background checks, the same as for school district teachers, along with immunization and medical service records, as appropriate.
