HOW SCHOOL STRING LESSONS WORK.
String School group lessons/ sectionals are different depending on what school your child attends. All lessons are 30 minutes. String group lessons/ sectionals are by instrument: violins with violins, viola with violas.... All String lessons students are pulled out of class for string instruction. Students are responsible for working with their classroom teacher with what they missed while at the group string lesson. The way a lesson works is we work on a concept in the school string group lesson. The string student should work on the concept/ assignment at home until they find the concept easy to perform. The string student should come into the next school group lesson with any questions or concerns/ have the concept well prepared so that we can move on to the next concept.
Lessons may be rescheduled or canceled due to assemblies, special events, string teacher is absent, field trips, testing- like PSSA- inclement weather......
What happens when we have school delays/closings?
*** WHEN THERE IS A 2 HOUR DELAY, LESSONS MAY BE RESCHEDULED ( SO BRING YOUR INSTRUEMENT AS NORMAL😁). FOR EARLY DISMISSALS, LESSONS ARE USUALLY CANCELLED FOR THAT DAY😢WHEN WE HAVE A DAY OFF FROM SCHOOL, THE DAY MISSED WILL BE THE NEXT DAY OF SCHOOL. PLEASE CHANGE ACCORDINGLY😄
Paradise Elementary: I am at PES EVERY DAY 1. String lessons rotate meaning the lesson time changes every cycle. This was designed so that the student does not miss the same class every cycle for the group string lesson. A String Lesson Schedule will be sent home, will be posted in the school, and a copy will be given to the classroom teacher and school main office.
New Salem: I am at NSE EVERY DAY 5. String lessons are the same time each cycle. A String Lesson Schedule will be sent home, will be posted in the school, and a copy will be given to the classroom teacher and school main office.
SGE: I am at SGE EVERY DAY 2. String lessons are the same time each cycle. A String Lesson Schedule will be sent home, will be posted in the school, and a copy will be given to the classroom teacher and school main office.
**** DUE TO COVID, THIS YEAR ALL LESSONS K-6 WILL BE AT THE SAME TIME EVERY WEEK.
PRACTICING - WHAT TO WORK ON AT HOME.
Play( practice) at home to fit your family's schedule. A little bit every day is best. If practice at home becomes a struggle, talk to Mrs. Gross and your child before taking any drastic measures like quitting. ( This is very normal) With different family schedules, we might need to think outside the box to come up with a practice plan that works for you. One example could be taking your string lesson book with you in the car on your way to a sports/ dance practice - without the instrument- and looking at the music, or "air" playing- this is still considered practicing. Be creative and keep playing. PRACTICE MAKES PROGESS!
ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE POSTED TO SCHOOLOGY FOR DISTANCE LEARNERS & IN SCHOOL STUDENTS :)
String students should be working in their "All For Strings" lesson books, String Packet(s), concert music( Orchestra Karate), and any online activities found on this website.

PRIVATE OUT OF SCHOOL STRING INSTRUCTIONSince I only see your child for lessons one time every 6 days for 30 minutes in a group setting, I don't always get to give personal instruction like I would like. Sometimes students need to be challenged or are needing more help. This is where outside of school Private String Instruction might be beneficial. One on one instruction is a great way to keep students working on harder concepts or to reinforce what is being taught in school group lessons. Private String Lessons is a personal choice. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
