In the same Science Olympiad Regional Competition, our varsity team won medals in eleven events: ¨ 1st in Forensics - Carolyn Corbin & Ethan Greco ¨ 2nd in Elevated Bridge - Kyle Forry & Tobie Sneeringer ¨ 2nd in Environmental Chemistry - Ethan Greco & Hunter Harrell ¨ 2nd in Mission Possible - Carolyn Corbin, Michael Crouse, & Derek Muff ¨ 2nd in Technical Problem Solving - Jacob Greco & Derek Muff ¨ 2nd in Write It, Do It - Michael Crouse & Derek Muff ¨ 3rd in Chemistry Lab - Ethan Greco & Derek Muff ¨ 3rd in It's About Time - Ethan Greco & Nick Hartman ¨ 4th in Dynamic Plane - Jacob Lovegren & Tobie Sneeringer ¨ 4th in Egg-O-Naut - Jacob Greco & Derek Muff ¨ 4th in Remote Sensing - Nick Hartman & Hunter Harrell. The team placed in the top ten in 20 of the 23 events and earned 3rd place overall out of 22 participating teams. Next stop is the state competition! |
| High School Students of the Month |
The HS Peer Mentoring Club honored two students recently for actively making a difference in the lives of others at the High School: Larry Sedgwick was nominated by music teacher Sue Jacobs, who said: "Larry's involvement in the school's music program, as well as being president of his class, are secondary to his overall upbeat personality, extremely positive attitude and cooperative nature in the classroom. Larry's smile is contagious!" Dakota Danner was nominated by teacher Maureen Leary, who explained: "When he found out that a student had no friends in his assigned lunch period, Dakota went out of his way to invite this student to join him at his lunch table. He is a true example of a good friend!" |
| MOST SPORTSMANLIKE | For the second year in a row our girls’ basketball program has been selected as MOST SPORTSMANLIKE from grades 7-12 by the York-Adams Chapter of Basketball Officials. Because of this, one senior girl from Spring Grove will now be selected to win the Gretchen Wolf-Swartz Scholarship which last year was in the amount of $3,000. |

| 14th Annual Physics Olympics |
Three Spring Grove teams competed in the 14th annual Physics Olympics competition at Dallastown the past two days. 29 total teams competed. The Electrostatic Bullies with team members Jacob Greco, Mike Crouse, Carolyn Corbin, Derek Muff and Kenny Seaman took first overall with 28 points. They finished in the top 5 in 7 of 10 events. Team America finished in 3rd place overall 18 points with team members Nick Hartman, Kyle Forry, Fiorella Miranda, Fabiola Miranda, and Jen Myers. They finished in the top 5 in 4 of the 10 events. The Rocket Scientists took 2nd place in the Slow Bike Race event. Congratulations to all of the teams we are proud of your accomplishments! |
| MATHCOUNTS | Our MATHCOUNTS team went to the regional competition at Millersville University on Saturday, February 26, 2010. There were 35 teams and 235 individuals registered from York, Adams, Lancaster and Lebanon Counties. Our team finished in 3rd place overall. Our team consisted of Jeremy Seitz-Brown, Wyatt Nace, Sam Roberts, and Albert Taglieri. Each member of our team received a trophy for their 3rd place finish. There was also a plaque awarded to our team for being the highest scoring team from the York and Adams Counties. There were two written rounds that were used to score individual points. The top 20 students received medallions to recognize their accomplishments. Two of our students, Jeremy and Wyatt, received these medallions. Jeremy placed 5th while Wyatt placed 19th. In addition to the written rounds, Jeremy also competed in the oral Count-Down Round since he was in the top 10. In this competition, Jeremy had 45 seconds or less to answer questions. In the next couple weeks we will receive the scores for our individual competitors. These students included Jackson Palumbo, Veer Pandya, Aaron Nace, and Andrew Whitman. We congratulate each of these students for their fine performance and outstanding representation of Spring Grove Middle School. |
| 2010 National Rural Electric Youth Tour |
Skyler Armstrong (Class of 2011)was elected to attend the 2010 National Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington, DC from June 13--18. Adams Electric is sponsoring Skyler and 13 other students from the York/Adams area. This is an all-expense paid week in our nation's capitol where she will meet about 1,400 other students from across the country, tour various historical sites and monuments in Washington,DC and meet with members of Congress. |
